I recently bought a pasta machine and was looking for a book with recipes for pasta...not pasta dishes. The description led me to believe the recipes in this book used fresh, from scratch pasta. They do not. The recipes look good, and I will use them, but now I still need to find what I thought I had ordered.Maybe they will be that much more amazing with fresh pasta in them!

I love this book! It is so well done. All recipes are quick, easy and beautifully photographed. You will feel like a gourmet every time you make one of the recipes! Each recipe also has a wine suggestion. This is great for trying new wine pairings with your meals. All recipes are so easy that anyone can make an impressive meal.

I tried a recipe from a blog for penne pasta with balsamic butter and asparagus that came from this cookbook. I loved it so much that I wanted to check out the other recipes. I've tried a spaghetti with spinach and tarragon cream sauce and a penne with cashew butter and green beans. Both were amazing. Simple and company-worthy. Definitely worth buying.

I love and collect cookbooks. But this is the ONLY pasta cookbook I have. Purchased many others, but always come back to the simple and delicious recipes in this book. Finally decided...it is the only Pasta cookbook I need.

This is a go-to cookbook in our household and has been for many years. Bought it as a gift for a friend who was in need of simple and quick recipes for weeknight dinners

Great book, received quickly by mail!

It isn't the cookbook per se. I purchased the cook book for four cents thinking the shipping charges in my basket covered the shipping charge of the book. Instead I paid separately $7.59 in shipping fees for a four cent book!. Why the fees were separate and not clearly explained upon payment is beyond me. I could have bought the book new for that price! Watch out for so called bargains.

I purchased this cookbook about ten years ago, and it has provided the directions – and the inspiration – for many excellent meals. In terms of the inspiration, the directions are on one page, and opposite is a full-page, color photograph of the finished product. I have a friend who is a photographer, and he carefully explained how devilishly hard it is to photograph prepared meals – and have them look appealing. And all of these photographs are simply perfect in that regard.There are 75 recipes in all, each with its full-page photograph. The recipes are divided into three overall sections: vegetable and cheese; seafood and poultry; and meat. As with most recipes, all the ingredients are carefully described, followed by instructions on how to properly combine them so that you (hopefully) produce a reasonable facsimile of the picture. Some recipe pages have boxes with special instruction, for example, on the rinsing of pasta.There is also an important “before you begin” section at the front of the book which provides some very useful information, for example on the cooking times for the range of pastas available: fettuccine, linguine, orecchiette, penne, tortellini, etc.My favorite recipe is the ziti with pork and escarole in creamy thyme sauce. As cooks tend to do, I have modified the original recipe beyond recognition. Instead of escarole, I now use a big bag of spinach from my favorite big box store. Likewise, I now add a large package of Portobello mushrooms. And finally, since this is New Mexico, I toss in a packet of hot chili. Good the first night, even better as “leftovers.” Overall, the book is highly recommended. 5-stars.

This book is quite wordy and sometimes repetitive, but I love that it approaches gender from a scientific point of view. A lot of great studies are included with helpful tables and charts to explain.

It is a beautiful book. I need it for my Psychology of Gender class. So far, an easy read.

Great book! Used in college course on gender roles.

Purchased for a Psych class. Small print, and the author made it too wordy. She could have got her point across in an easier to read format. I am ADD and it took me a lot to stay focused. Author repeated herself too many times, and made valid points spread out, so you would think this is what the study results were, when later in chapter it contradicted that point.

Very cheap, quick and useful!

The book is good, and interesting, but the author repeats herself too much. Example: the point she makes at the start of the heading is just restated every paragraph till the next heading, where the process repeats.

The book​ is a little stained but it works!

Pretty biased toward the left. Has a lot of great information, but Helgeson alienates those in her audience with traditional values.

This interesting account of the 1991 Persian Gulf War by a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter features a number of original observations about the conduct of the war. For example, Atkinson discloses that the Bush administration allowed navy warships to fire cruise missiles covertly over Iran against Iraqi targets. Among his other disclosures are the use of napalm and fuel air explosives on Iraqi infantry positions and the suggestion by Air Force Brig. Gen. Buster Glosson to use small nuclear weapons against Iraqi targets. Atkinson is extremely critical of Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf's behavior. Although Schwarzkopf is credited with being an accomplished military strategist, he is portrayed as someone who abused and publicly denigrated his subordinates and who appeared to be in a near-constant state of rage. Mr. Atkinson knows how to write an interesting and engaging story, and he does so pretty well in this book. Considering the broad subject and the length of the book it is a testament to the author's writing skills that the reader never gets bored or bogged down in unnecessary details. This is an interesting account of many facets of the Persian Gulf War (the first one), but by all means it is not the definitive nor the all-encompassing history of that war. The book mainly focus on the US side of the conflict, and particularly on the US Army and USAF contribution to the war. While there is a lot of evident research that went into this book, it still relies a lot on oral history.The strong points in the book are the engaging story telling, the looks behind the scenes of the preparation and war plans-making, the personal relations between the political and military leaders, and the accounts of most mayor US battles in the conflict. All of this is very skillfully webbed and presented to the reader in a very attractive format.Unfortunately, there is almost no mention, even less any meaningful recount of the contribution of the many other partners in the Coalition, with basically only the UK, France and the Arab Ground Forces being briefly mentioned. And the naval aspect of the war gets a very superficial treatment, besides a few rather anecdotal stories. The pictures are really not up to par with the text, and in some instances the date of the writing (just one year after the war finished in 1992-1993) clearly shines through as a lot of new and declassified information has since become available that is not included in the book (hint to the author and editor, an updated edition is needed!). Finally, being based a lot on oral history, there is an evident lack of own analysis and opinion.However, overall these negative points are minor when compared with the overall very positive reading experience. Simply don't expect to be presented with the final historical and complete analysis of the First Persian Gulf War. If you are looking for a interesting and engaging book (if there is such thing when dealing with war, death and destruction) about the US contribution in the Gulf War, this is it - recommended.

This book is pretty long, about 500 pages...I read it in three days. Excellent research. Excellent detail. Excellent writing. Atkinson just has a way. If you are interested in military history--especially modern Middle Eastern Warfare--this book will not disappoint. I served in the Gulf War and Crusade brought back a lot of memories. I can't believe it took me this long to discover it. At first I didn't agree with Atkinson's conclusions. In a nutshell, although a smashing military victory, the Gulf War failed in the fact that nothing really changed for the better in the long term. However, the more I thought about it I realized Atkinson is dead right. And, he came to this conclusion just two years after the war ended. Rick Atkinson is a great writer and historian. And, Crusade is a great book.

Rick Atkinson's account of the First Gulf War captures the essence the conflict and calls out the many sacrifices made by our service members in a war portrayed in the media (manipulated by the military) as a nearly bloodless computer game for the allied forces. Crusade's attention to detail brought back memory's of the time and put somethings in a historical perspective for me. What was interesting is that this account firmly meshed with the personal accounts of the war that other veterans have shared with me (from the Army, Navy and Marine Corps). With the book published so soon after the war, the only thing I can fault in is Mr. Atkinson's ability to predict the future. Calling out the conflict as insignificant with no impact, we can see clearly now (with hindsight being 20/20) that we were setting off the fuse for a chain of events leading to Global War On Terror. "Crusade" is the ultimate book on the build-up and execution of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. This book is exceptionally well-researched and detailed, and presents some fairly complicated history in an amazingly uncomplicated fashion. "Crusade" is an essential guide to the geopolitics of the early 1990s.

Very well written. But in a story that covers so much territory that is not known to this American reader, I would have greatly appreciated more maps and fewer photos of the individuals involved.

I was very impressed by the amount of information and detail in this book. It made me able to visualize how it was for the servicemen who fought in Desert Storm. I would highly recommend this title if you're interested in a knowledgable book about the war and how it was for our men and women entrenched in it. I wanted to read several books that would give me a feel for the war and this one did. This was only one of two books I used for research, and it was invaluable, so I highly recommend it.
