This book has got to be the most comprehensive monograph on American surrealist Gertrube Abercrombie. Full page color reproductions of Abercrombie's paintings are beautifully reproduced, and this book is quite substantial at almost 500 pages. I have been fortunate enough to see some of her works on display at the Illinois State Museum, and yes, the reproductions in this book are pretty faithful to the original paintings. Many of Miss Abercrombie's paintings are unconventionally small, some of which are less than 4 inches wide, painted in oil on masonite boards using dark and muted colors, or in some cases due to the type of oil medium or varnish that she used have darkened over time.
Interesting historical photos of Gertrude. Many images of paintings, but the darker ones are so dark the objects cannot be picked out from the background.
